The City Council is the policy making body of the City of Montezuma. The City Council, along with the Mayor, approves the annual budget, all ordinances, resolutions and contracts in public meetings. The Mayor Pro Tempore is elected annually to preside over meetings in the absence of the Mayor.
City Council members serve for four (4) year staggered terms and are elected at large. Each Council member is appointed annually by the Mayor to serve as the Chairman of one of six departments: Personnel, Finance and Budget; Police Department; Streets, Sanitation, Cemetery, Utilities, and Public Works; Fire and Emergency Services; Public Properties; Economic Development and Tourism.
The Mayor and City Council meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber at Montezuma City Hall. Work session is held at 6:00 p.m. with Council Meeting immediately following. Meetings are open to the public. Council Meeting Agendas are posted on the City Hall Front Door 24 hours prior to each meeting. The following is a directory of Montezuma's elected officials.
